I eat only one meal a day, but I still don’t lose weight. Why is that?

Many people make the mistake and skip meals because they think that this will lead to weight loss. In reality, however, frequent eating habits provide consistent energy and maintain the metabolism efficiency. The human body stores fat in order to protect us from starvation. Once our food intake decreases, the body holds on to the fat cells to conserve energy.

What is the thermic effect of food?

This term refers to the energy expenditure by our bodies in order to eat and process the food. Procession protein requires the most amount of energy (up to 30 percent). Dietary fat, however, is easily processed and stored as body fat.

What is obesity?

Even though the concept of obesity varies, any weight that is above the “normal” results in changes of the body. Once the weight gain formed favorable conditions for hypertension, diabetes, gallstones or even cancers, one can speak of obesity. Generally, obesity refers to the stadium of weight gain where health problems can be predicted.

Does drinking water help weight loss?

Adequate fluid intake is important and definitely a good goal, not only during diets, but also in general. Drinking a glass of water before your meal fills some of your stomach volume and adding a small amount of psyllium (a soluble fiber) can also help the water stay in the stomach.

I am over weight and the idea of weight loss is overwhelming. Where so I start?

While a diet may come easy to those who only want to loose a few pounds, the idea of loosing 50,60, or 70 pounds is a different one. Many people that find themselves in that position don’t know where to begin. Consider the following easy starter-methods: Park as far away from the stores as possible and consider the walk as your start of exercise. Take your dog for a real walk instead of just letting him out. Take the elevator instead of stairs and walk to pick up your lunch at work.

What is a good snack if I am hungry right before I go to bed?

Usually, we are actually thirsty but feel like we need to eat something before going to bed. If you drink a glass of water and still feel hungry, try a bowl of cereal or a glass of milk with some cookies. Be careful with overeating, as heavy meals can and will disrupt your sleep.

The Weight Loss Industry
The weight-loss business is a booming industry. Americans spend an estimated $30 billion a year on all types of diet programs and products including diet foods and drinks. Trying to sort out all of the competing claims--often misleading unproven or just plain false--can be confusing and costly.
